Sodium PCA is a high-performance humectant found in skin’s Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF). Helps attract and hold water for plumper, smoother feel, reduces dryness, supports a healthy-looking barrier, and improves softness in both skin and hair formulations—without heaviness or greasiness.
Ideal for: face serums, gel creams, lotions, body creams, toners/essences, hydrating mists, sheet masks, cleansing gels, aftershaves, deodorants, hand creams, scalp serums, shampoos/conditioners, leave-ins, curl creams, hair masks, and styling products needing lasting hydration.
Sodium PCA Typical use level: 0.2–5% (leave-on often 0.5–3%; rinse-off 0.2–1%). Water-soluble. Add to the cool-down phase or dissolve in water/glycerin, then mix into the water phase. Avoid prolonged high-heat exposure; adjust final pH after adding if needed.
Sodium PCA Plays well with common actives and bases: glycerin, propylene glycol, betaine, panthenol, HA, niacinamide, allantoin, most emulsifiers (e.g., Olivem 1000), and many thickeners. Suitable across a broad pH range typical of skin care. Always run stability/preservative testing for finished formulas.
Try: 2% Sodium PCA + 2% glycerin + 0.1% HA in a hydration serum; 1% in gel-cream moisturizers for “bouncy” feel; 0.5% in shampoo/conditioner for softer slip; combine with betaine/panthenol for barrier-support blends. Little goes a long way—great for premium “deep hydration” claims.
